Stretched Silence

Silence has stretched
out to mock me
this past year
I turned to it with anger
at first
but have learned to
greet it as a friend
I drift on its wings
carrying soundless
messages you don't realize
you are sending
that you cannot as yet
face me
not knowing the bridges
built of silent walls
are imaginary... but they
won't tumble down
if we should pass
in the darkness
