A clever fraud

You were a clever fraud
or so I thought
stealing away beauty
with you silver tongue
the reticence
with which I accepted
showed I had lost
and you had won...

Am I not what you wanted?
Why then did you steal me soul?
Was my brain too gentle
for your liking
too free thinking for your control?

Now left here am I
bitterness edged
beyond my years...
A blank hardness
to hide my tears
the sudden looks of misery
to be covered
for to be broken again
is my greatest fear...
